History

Canton Calvary Mission opened in 2001 in the building occupied by Calvary United Methodist Church until its closure in December 2000. The church had already begun some community outreach programs, so it was a natural step for the Mission to continue those programs. Since then, programming has grown and continutes to grow to reflect the needs of the neighborhood.

Although programs had already begun in the spring of 2001, the Mission was incorporated as an Ohio non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization on August 15, 2001. A small group of unpaid volunteers oversaw the day to day operations of the Mission at the beginning. A full time executive director was added in 2003.
